Wilbert is our most experienced horse standing at 16.1 hands. He joined us as an unbroken three year old in 2002. With the capable help of Tjeuke, his stable mate, we introduced him to carriage driving. Wilbert is a bit cheeky and has never quite grown up but he loves the carriage work, particularly as one of a pair.
Mr Fokke is now 7 and belongs to our friend Helen, who has kindly agreed to lend him to us for weddings. Broken to harness as a youngster he was only ridden until last winter. We started him in the pair with Wilbert and he rose to the challenge. Mr Fokke is somewhat naïve, very curious and you couldn’t find a friendlier horse. This gentle giant stands at 16.2.
Falko, a 7 yo gelding, is the latest recruit. He arrived in March 2008. He is broken to ride and drive and is quickly getting used to his new masters. He is eager to learn and we expect to be using him for weddings in the 2009 season, so for now it is exercise, exercise, exercise.
Falko, at 15’3, is slightly smaller than Wilbert but is able to match him in walk so an ideal pairs mate.
Esme arrived two years ago as an unbroken three year old. She is the sweetest horse you could hope to meet and is being used for light work. Esme got a ‘3rd premie’ (Friesian breed qualification) at her first inspection as a young mare last September and was registered in the studbook. This means we can breed registered Friesian foals form her …
Tjeuke was one of the founder members of our company. As our first Friesian, he introduced us to carriage driving and we had bundles of fun with him. He patiently tolerated our early efforts at driving but when it came to driving competitions he came into his own (see the event gallery). Unfortunately he died last year aged only eight from complications after a colic operation.
Driver and groom deserve a mention here too. Dineke as Coach(wo)man and husband Dik who grooms but is licensed to drive if necessary.
