Wilbert is our most experienced horse: 10 years old and standing at 16.1 hands. He joined us as an unbroken three year old in 2002. With the capable help of Tjeuke, his stable mate, we introduced him to carriage driving. Wilbert is a bit cheeky and has never quite grown up but he loves the carriage work, particularly as one of a pair.
Falko, a 8 yo gelding, is the latest recruit. He arrived in March 2008. Is now comfortable in the carriage with WIlbert. He remains eager to learn and we’re doing lot’s of longreigning as a single with hime to build his confidence.
Falko, at 15’3, is slightly smaller than Wilbert but is able to match him in walk so an ideal pairs mate.
Mr Fokke is now 8 and belongs to our friend Helen, who has kindly agreed to lend him to us for weddings. Broken to harness as a youngster he was only ridden until last winter. We started him in the pair with Wilbert and he rose to the challenge. Mr Fokke is somewhat naïve, very curious and you couldn’t find a friendlier horse. This gentle giant stands at 16.2.
Esme (aka Lieneke T) arrived three years ago as an unbroken three year old. She’s now 16 hands and is very affectionate, but can still be quite a handful when ridden.
She is being used for light work. Esme got a ‘3rd premie’ (Friesian breed qualification) at her first inspection as a young mare in September 07 and was registered in the FPS studbook. This means we can breed registered Friesian foals form her …
Tjeuke was one of the founder members of our company. As our first Friesian, he introduced us to carriage driving and we had bundles of fun with him. He patiently tolerated our early efforts at driving but when it came to driving competitions he came into his own (see the event gallery). Unfortunately he died last year aged only eight from complications after a colic operation.
Driver and groom deserve a mention here too. Dineke as Coach(wo)man and husband Dik who grooms but is licensed to drive if necessary.
