When arranging a wedding there is a lot to take into account. If you are considering hiring a horse and carriage combination for (part of) the wedding transport have a look at the following:
Arriving in style Most wedding carriages just have a hood and cannot be completely closed should the weather be inclement. Consider the chances of arriving with your wedding dress spoilt by rain or arriving with a wind-swept hairstyle. Some carriages are fully convertible to suit any weather condition but you may pay more for this feature.
Travelling distance Horses used for wedding carriages are usually exercised to a high level of fitness but like all athletes they will sweat up when working for a longer time. In order for the animals to look the part for your wedding photos you should limit the distance between venues to around 3 miles. However, it is always possible to change to a car at a convenient place out of sight of you wedding guests if your reception venue is some distance from the wedding venue.
Number of passengers Some carriages barely seat two adults (e.g. the bride and her father) others have plenty of room for four. Consider if you would like bridesmaids and/or flower girls to accompany the bride to the wedding venue. Sending the bridesmaids ahead in the same carriage may not be such a good idea for several reasons:
- The horses may be sweaty by the time the bride arrives at her own wedding after having done a previous trip.
- The first trip with the bridesmaids could attract all the attention and possibly take away from the bride.
